שאלה:

Over the past days I'm practicing Shamatah meditation that the object is the mind.

I'm succeeding in watching the thoughts but when the mind become more quiet another thought is coming and telling me "there's no thoughts now"

and I'm getting confused by the "voice" who's watching the mind, like he's not a part of the mind…Is this because we have such a strong grasping at a separate self? or if there are too many thoughts I'm going back to the breathing and after the mind is more quiet there's a voice that keep on watching the breathes (in-out – in – out), Also in this case I feel like there are 2 different minds – the one that I'm watching and the one that always there, always in awareness… I'm getting realy confused when it happens 🙂

תשובה:

Yes. Due to grasping there seems to be a separate observer.

Remember this is a shamatha practice and as such we are simply to observe the object (in this case the mind) and not question whether there are two minds or not. Vipashyana practice is the right time to do these sorts of investigations.
So if confusion arises in your shamatha practice simply observe that confusion without grasping or distraction.

Hope this helps,
Glen
