Sakya Pandita’s Clarifying the Sage’s Intent
Beginning date: 7th March, 2019
Ending date: 9th march, 2019
Teacher: His Holiness Sakya Trizin, Ratna Vajra Rinpoche
Location: Kibbutz Lohamei Hageta'ot, Israel
We are delighted to announce that His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin, Ratna Vajra Rinpoche will teach during his visit an exceptional weekend course.
The practice that is the heart of the Sakya lineage is Lam Dre- the path including the result.
The Lam Dre tradition is composed of practice explanations and instructions of all the stages of the Buddhist path; starting with acknowledging the spiritual potential and taking refuge and finishing off with particular instructions to actualize Buddhahood for Bodhisattvas on the highest level.
One of the forefathers of the Sakya lineage is the great scholar Sakya Pandita. The name Pandita was granted to him due to his great knowledge relating to spiritual practices, as well as his mastery of Sanskrit. The spiritual depth of his knowledge brought the rulers of China and Mongolia to invite him to teach them. In this way, the influence of Sakya Pandita went out of Tibet’s borders to all the area of central Asia. Some of the texts he wrote, such as the commentary on the writings of the Indian scholar Dharmakirti, are praised till today as deep and comprehensive.
As part of his visit in Israel, His Holiness Sakya Trizin will teach the text: “Clarifying the Sage’s Intent” by Sakya Pandita. The text deals with the spiritual practices of a Mahayana Practitioner from the most basic practices up to the explanations about complete enlightenment. This text has a special importance in the Sakya lineage since it is the first text taught by a Khon family member once being enthroned as the head of the Sakya lineage of Tibetan Buddhism ( not every Khon family member gets to be the throne holder of the Sakya lineage).
This text was translated to English by the Library of Tibetan Classics led by the translator and scholar Thubten Jinpa. Sakya Pandita’s text was translated as part of a collection: “Stages of Buddha’s Teachings” by the direct request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
It is an exceptionally unique occasion to receive teachings of this text from the throne holder of the Skya Lineage, in particular in Israel.
In addition, His Holiness Sakya Trizin will teach “The Praise to Manjushri: Glorious Wisdom’s Excellent Qualities”. The origin of this text is in India. 500 Buddhist scholars were asked by their monastery’s abbot to retreat and compose a praise to Manjushri. When they returned and presented their compositions, it turned out that they all wrote the exact same words. It is said that this was brought about by Manjushri’s blessing. The purpose of reciting the text is to develop wisdom and removal of obstacles to the understanding of Buddha’s teachings. It’s said that reciting this text even once helps to remove obstacles in Dharma practice.
His Holiness Sakya Trizin will also grant a Manjushri Jenang based on this text.
Jenang (Tibetan) or Subsequent Permission (English) is a procedure in which the Lama grants the disciples permission to perform a particular deity’s practice in order to swiftly ripen the Buddha nature of the disciple and achieve quick and complete enlightenment.
His Holiness The 42nd sakya Trizin, Ratna Vajra Rinpoche is the eldest son of the previous throne holder of the lineage, His Holiness Sakya Trichen (Sakya Trizin the 41st). He is considered one of the most esteemed and qualified lineage holders of the Sakya , the second chronological lineage in the history of Tibetan Buddhism.
His Holiness teaches in English and inspires Dharma disciples from all over the world with his wisdom, captivating simplicity, modesty and honesty.
