Song of Spiritual Experience

A weekend course. Place: Kibbuz Yehiam, Israel.

Teaching days: 9th till the 11th of March, 2017 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).

Empowerment (Jenang): 12th of March, 2017 (Sunday).

glrLama Tsongkhapa was a philosopher, scholar, yogi, esteemed teacher, spiritual leader and also a poet. During his lifetime, he wrote dozens of texts dealing with the Buddhist path and the ways and methods of attaining the supreme state of mind, which is free of all suffering- Enlightenment. Lama Tsongkhapa summarized this variety of ways and methods in one song, which was written as an advice to a disciple interested in liberation from suffering. Lama Tsongkhapa named the song-“The Song of Spiritual Experience”.

The song itself has not merely been driven from intellectual knowledge, but rather from the inner experiences of Lama Tsongkhapa, based on the realizations of the written instructions of the Buddha and his followers in India. Lama Tsongkhapa studied from the greatest teachers of his time and meditated in solitude for ten years until he attained insights. He shared his insights with his disciples in this song, in order to lead them on the inner path to Liberation and Enlightenment.

From the time of Lama Tsongkhapa until today, a live tradition of teaching the gradual stages to Enlightenment (Tibetan: Lam Rim) has been maintained by means of oral transmission from teacher to disciple. Nowadays, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is one of the main teachers who teaches and preserves this tradition.

For the purpose of preserving the liveliness of the tradition, Ling Rinpoche requested His Holiness the Dalai Lama to teach different texts of the Lam-Rim. That public teaching took place in India, in front of a vast audience of students, annually over a few years. His Eminence Ling Rinpoche the 7th, who will teach us this course, was the organizer of those teachings and was among the main disciples of H.H the Dalai Lama who received them.

This is an outstanding opportunity for us to listen to a special teaching about the gradual path to Enlightenment from a teacher, who in his previous life gave an oral transmission of the Lam-Rim to the Dalai Lama, and in his current life, received an oral transmission from the Dalai Lama.

By means of this fascinating text, we can hear the advice of Lama Tsongkhapa and receive instructions on how to tread along that inner path, which will assist us to get rid of the sources of suffering and attain Enlightenment.

You are welcome to participate in this unique opportunity.

Manjushri and Green Tara initiations (Jenang)

A subsequent permission (Tibetan: Jenang) is a procedure through which a Lama bestows a permission upon disciples to perform the spiritual practice of a particular enlightened being in order to swiftly ripen the Buddha nature and rapidly attain complete Enlightenment.

A pre-requisite for receiving a permission is receiving an empowerment. Therefore, the procedure of the permission has to be subsequent to that of the empowerment and is complementary to it.  Also, someone who has not yet received an empowerment can receive a Subsequent Permission, but in that case, the way of practice will be different. This will be explained during the course.

In this visit, His Eminence Ling Rinpoche the 7th will bestow Subsequent Permissions of two enlightened beings- Manjushri and Green Tara.

Manjushri (Tibetan: Jampel Yang) – The enlightened being who embodies the wisdom of all the Buddhas. By means of receiving a Subsequent Permission of Manjushri, we are permitted to perform the spiritual practice of this enlightened being; in our minds the imprints to ripen the Buddha nature within us, attain complete enlightenment and in particular, develop sharp insight and wisdom are all created; and we are purified from physical, verbal and mental negativities.

Green Tara (Tibetan: Jetsun Drolma)- The enlightened being who embodies the enlightened activity of all the Buddhas. By means of receiving a Subsequent Permission of Green Tara, we are permitted to perform the spiritual practice of this enlightened being; in our minds, imprints are created to ripen the Buddha Nature within us and attain complete enlightenment, and in particular, the success of our activities, fulfillment of our wishes and the attainment of our aims; and we are purified from physical, verbal and mental negativities.
