ארבעת המסדים הרגילים (The Four Ordinary Foundations) הם ארבע מחשבות המפנות את תודעתנו לעבר תרגול הדהרמה, ולכן ידועים גם בשם the Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind to the Dharma.

ארבע המדיטציות הללו הן הבסיס, המסד, לכל המסורות שלימד הבודהה, שמובילות אותנו להשגת מטרותיהן: מוביל התרוואדה, שמטרתו השגת חירות אישית; מוביל המהאיאנה ומוביל הווג׳ריאנה, שמטרתם השגת הארה שלמה למענם של כל בעלי התודעה.

ארבעת המסדים הרגילים הם:

– חיי אנוש יקרי ערך

– ארעיות ומוות

– קרמה

– פגמי הקיום המעגלי (סמסארה).

אם נעמיק בנושאים האלה ונפנים אותם נוכל להבין את מצבנו-אנו ותיפתח בפנינו האפשרות לעלות על הדרך של פיתוח חוכמה וחמלה ולהתמיד בה. באמצעות המדיטציות הללו תתפתח בנו חוכמה שמבקשת מקלט מהתהליך הסמסארי, וחוכמה זו תסייע גם בפיתוח חמלה עצומה עבור אחרים.

תרגול ארבעת המסדים הרגילים מהווה בסיס לתרגולים מתקדמים כמו מהאמודרה. כך גם תרגולי הווג'ריאנה, לפי מסורת הקאגיו, מתחילים בהרהור בארבעת המסדים הללו.

רינגוּ טולקו רינפוצ'ה הוא אחד המורים הבכירים בשושלת הקאגיו, שידועה גם כ"שושלת התרגול", ובה מושם דגש מיוחד על תרגול מדיטציה. רינפוצ'ה לימד במקומות רבים בכל העולם למעלה מארבעים שנה. לצד תפקידו המסורתי רינפוצ'ה למד ופרסם רבות אודות התנועה העל-כיתתית (רִימֶה) בטיבט, ועבד במערכת החינוך בסיקים, הודו. בנוסף למעלותיו הרבות, רינפוצ'ה ידוע בסגנונו הנינוח והבהיר, כשהוא הופך את התרגול לרלבנטי למעלות ולמורדות של החוויה האנושית.

רינגוּ טולקו רינפוצ'ה ביקר בישראל ב-2019 ואנחנו נשמח לארח אותו שוב כאשר המצב יאפשר זאת.

The Four Ordinary Foundations – Ringu Tulku Rinpoche

Online course, Friday-Saturday, June 27-28, 2025

The Four Ordinary Foundations are four thoughts that turn the mind towards practicing dharma, and therefore known also as the Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind to the Dharma.

These four meditations are the basis to all the traditions taught by the Buddha, that lead us to attain their goals: the Theravada vehicle, that aims to attain liberation; the Mahayana vehicle and the Vajrayana vehicle, that aim to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings.

The Four Ordinary Foundations are:

– Precious human rebirth

– Impermanence and Death

– Karma

– The faults of cyclic existence (samsara)

If we delve into these topics and internalize them, we will be able to understand our own situation, to embark on the path of developing wisdom and compassion and to persevere in it. By these meditations a wisdom that wishes to take refuge from the samsaric process will be developed in us, and this wisdom will also help us developing great compassion to others.

Practicing the Four Ordinary Foundations is a basis for advanced practices like Mahamudra. It is also a basis for practicing Vajrayana, since the Ngondro practice according to the Kagyu tradition starts with reflecting on these Four Ordinary Foundations. The Ngondro practice is known also by the name The Four Special Foundations.

Ringu Tulku Rinpoche is one of the senior teachers in the Kagyu Lineage, also known as the practice lineage.  He has been teaching in many venues all over the world for more than 40 years.  Alongside his traditional role he has studied and published extensively on the non-sectarian (Rime) movement in Tibet, and has worked in the education system in Sikkim. Despite his extensive qualifications, Rinpoche is known for his relaxed and uncomplicated style, putting emphasis on making our practice relevant to the ups and downs of human experience.

Rinpoche visited Israel in 2019, and we look forward to welcoming him in person again when the situation permits.
